Life on the Riverwalk

Friday, February 26th, 2010

My mom, Nancy Strong, working on her HDR Photography in the Apartment's Living Room As I write this, I’m sitting in the apartment my uncle is going to rent. I knew it was just off the San Antonio Riverwalk, but seeing it, I’m really impressed. From the windows of my uncle’s apartment, you can look down on the Riverwalk and see the bridge. He’s really done a fabulous job both with his personal apartment and the apartment he’s going to let. My mom and I are staying in the apartment he’s going to let. Hardwood floors, a spacious living room, a wet bar, a full kitchen, a dining nook, a full bath, and a lovely bedroom with a really lovely mattress. Most of the walls are brick, lending it an old feel while the decor and the furniture is definitely modern. It’s a great blend.

The Peacock We got into San Antonio yesterday afternoon and after a quick tour of Uncle George’s two apartments, we quickly set to work. Aunt Andi and Uncle Mack had arrived earlier that day, carting with them the huge stained glass peacock my mom had made Uncle George. It was our job to get the bird hung in Uncle George’s dining room. After much debate, we began hanging. Actually, my mom and Uncle Mack started hanging the bird, Aunt Andi watched, I stayed out of the way (for the most part), and Uncle George, ever the gracious host, prepared a plate of cheese and crackers for his worker bees, as Aunt Andi described us at one point. There were a few difficulties, but the peacock is hung overlooking the Riverwalk. Now, should anyone care to, they can look up as they walk over The Bridge and envy the owner of such a beautiful piece of art!

The Bridge Over the River The Riverwalk is amazing. All through dinner last night (which I helped prepare so I can learn to cook fancy meals like what Uncle George and Aunt Andi prepare) I looked out over The Bridge and just enjoyed the whole thing. People coming and going, the mariachi band serenading people in a nearby restaurant with tunes like La Bamba, happy voices wafting up from the river and a gentle, calm breeze. Later today we’re going to go to the Riverwalk and take photographs for the website. I can’t wait! I’d love to just walk up and down the Riverwalk, looking in shops and just enjoying the whole experience, but somehow I don’t think we’ll have time.
